About Me

Nick has delivered training on a wide range of subjects in different environments, in the public as well as voluntary sectors. Prior to this, he worked within the voluntary sector for over 20 years, and has extensive experience of UK health and social care. He worked in voluntary sector organisations providing services to people with physical and learning disabilities, homeless people, carers, and people with HIV/AIDS. He also worked at a strategic level in a London borough, providing advice, training and consultancy to voluntary sector organisations and community groups. He also represented the needs and views of the voluntary sector to local authorities, primary care trusts, NHS trusts, and the police.

He has been involved in a number of formal and informal partnerships between the voluntary sector and a range of statutory organisations. This has included heading one of the first European Social Fund programmes with a voluntary organisation as its lead agency, being a member of an SRB Partnership Board, and of a Strategic HIV & Sexual Health Partnership Board. He has also served as an elected voluntary sector representative on a Joint Consultative Committee for health and social services in a London borough. As Manager of Waltham Forest Carers Association, he set up the first partnership network for Carers Workers in the borough.

Nick's particular area of expertise is in helping voluntary and community organisations to think strategically, while managing the expectations of a complex range of stakeholders. He has served as a trustee for a number of different charities, and has a strong understanding of the complex governance issues facing voluntary organisations. He is especially interested in how organisations can involve and include their service users at every level.

Nick is also an Associate Lecturer with The Open University, tutoring on
